The 20 Minute Website: Using Themes, Shared Borders, Navigation Bars, 
and a Banner Ad

 1) Close out any open webs.
 2) Select New from the File menu and then choose Web…
 
3) From the New window choose Empty Web.
 4) Type C:\My Webs\k-12 under Specify the location of the new web:
 
5) Click OK.
 6) Select the Navigation button located under the Views panel.
 7) Choose the New Page button on the Toolbar to create a new page.
 8) Double-click on the Home Page icon in the Navigation window.

Applying a Theme

 1) Select Theme… from the Format menu.
 2) Choose the Tabs and Folders theme.
 3) Make sure Active graphics and Background picture are checked.
 4) Click OK.
 5) Click Yes.

Setting up Navigation View

We wish to create a site with three child pages.

 1) Choose Navigation under the Views panel.
 2) Right-click on the Home Page icon in the Navigation view and select Rename.
 3) Type Internet Curriculum for K-12 Students and press ENTER.
 4) Click on the New Page icon on the Toolbar.

A New Page 1 icon will appear under the Internet Curriculum page in Navigation View.

 5) Right-click on the New Page 1 icon and click on Rename.
 6) Type Elementary Links and press ENTER.
 7) Click once on the Internet Curriculum… icon in the Navigation View.
 8) Click on the New Page icon on the Toolbar again.
 9) Right-click on the New Page 1 icon and select Rename.
10) Type Secondary Links and press ENTER.
11) Follow the procedure above to create another new page. Name the page Administrative Links.

Your Navigation View should resemble the diagram on the following page:

 

Shared Borders

 1) Select Shared Borders… from the Format menu.
 2) From the Shared Borders window select All Pages, Top, Left (Include navigation buttons) and Bottom.
 3) Click OK.
 4) Open up the Internet Curriculum… page by double-clicking on it.
 5) Click in the Comment: area at the top of the screen.
 6) Select Page Banner… from the Insert menu.
 7) Click on Picture and make sure Internet Curriculum for K-12 Students is visible under Page banner text.
 8) Click OK.
 9) Center the Page Banner.

Note: If your page banner is not flush with the top edge of the frame, do the following: a) Select the HTML tab in the lower-left corner of the window. Delete any space between the <html> and <head> tags. b) Click on the Normal tab.

Navigation Bars

 1) Right-click in the hyperlinks area (Elem., Secondary, and Administrative) in the left-hand side of your window.
 2) Click on Navigation Bar Properties… and choose Child pages under Home and Home page and then Vertical and Buttons.
 3) Click OK.
 4) Save your changes to this start page (index.htm).

 This Navigation Bar should now be applied to all the other pages of your web.

 5) Delete the Comment in the Shared Border area.
 6) Enter the following text in the Comment area: Copyright Ó 2000 Empire CSD. All Rights Reserved.
 7) Select the text you just typed and click the Italic button and change the Font Size to 10 pt.
 8) Center the text.
 9) Resave your page.

Create a Table

 1) Make sure index.htm is still on your screen.
 2) Click in the center area of your window. Your cursor should not be in any of the three shared border areas.
 3) Select Insert from the Table… menu and then choose Table…
 4) Use the following settings for your table:

Rows: 1
C
olumns: 2
A
lignment: Center
Border size: 0
Cell padding: 0
Cell spacing: 1
Width 89%

 5) Click OK.
 6) Click in the right-hand cell.
 7) Right-click in the cell and select Cell Properties…
 8) Change the Horizontal alignment to Right and the Vertical alignment to Top.
 9) Click OK.
10) Type Developed by:
11) Press ENTER.
12) Type your First Name, Last Name.

      We now wish to insert a Line Break.

13) Choose Break… from the Insert menu and then select Normal line break and click OK.
14) Type your school name.
15) Insert another Line Break.
16) Enter your school street address.
17) Insert another Line Break.
18) Type your school city and zip.
19) Press ENTER.
20) Enter your e-mail address.
21) Select the text you just typed and choose Heading 4 from the Style menu, and change the Font Color to Olive, and select Bold.
22) Highlight your e-mail address and change the Font Size to 10 pt. and italicize.

Creating a Banner Ad Picture

 1) Make sure index.htm is still on your screen.
 2) Your cursor should be positioned in the left table cell – not in any of the three shared border areas.
 3) Right-click in the left table cell and select Cell Properties…
 4) Select Top under Horizontal alignment: and click OK.
 5) Choose Insert Component from the Insert menu and then select Banner Ad Manager…
 
6) On the BannerAd Manager Properties window click on the Add… button.
 7) Then choose the Select a file on your computer icon.
 8) Select your floppy drive from the Look in: drop-down and select the graphic  named ric and click OK.
 9) Add the images globe2 and computer using the above mentioned procedure.
10) The dimensions for the banner ad window need to be Width: 232 and Height: 173.
10) Pick a Transition effect: and set 7 under Show each picture for (seconds).
11) Click OK.
12) Save your page.

      Your index.htm page should resemble the following:

Finishing Touches

 1) Click to the right of the Page Banner graphic. Your cursor needs to be positioned to the right of the graphic.
 2) Press the ENTER key.
 3) Save your changes.
 4) Preview the page in your browser and try the links.                                TOP
